BIO + BACKSTORY

Studying at PNCA in Portland Oregon & Columbia in Chicago Illinois, I left with a BFA in Graphic Design and an AFA in Fine Art. Working as an artist throughout schooling left me with loads of 1099-MISC forms, a list of projects I will never take on again, and a new found knowledge that no matter what, theres no way I could not be an artist.  Life has meaning because of art.

Tending to live the mixed-media lifestyle, I seem to always have a 100 ideas, and only the time for about five at a time. While my studies have been studied, I firmly believe that no one is ever finished learning, and no one should ever see a graduation date as the point of impact. Being an artist means you're thinking of strange and new ideas in the shower, while picking out a head of lettuce, and even channeling solutions while sleeping.  No matter the subject, client, activity, or pay rate, I tend to push my personal boundaries so that when I finish a project, I have learned something new and challenging to bring to the next.

Forever interested in creating a nostalgic connection between the audience and the client at hand, I feel the root of Art and Design is based in psychology and the way we interact with objects. My goal is to make an effortless tangent between people and their youthful imaginative minds.  Creatives need to make someone feel something; always attempting to draw in a crowd of those who might not have been previously interested in the subject at hand.  With design, there is a social power that every working professional needs to find, define, and re-design on their own; mine is to remind everyone of life, desire, humility and humanity.

As my current endeavor, I am the Art Director at a startup tech company in Chicago's West Loop Fulton Market corridor.  Outside of my 9-5, I'm currently living in the arts district of East Garfield Park, Chicago with my favorite collaborator, my husband and our scruffy Wheaten Terrier. You will find us obsessively collecting wax [vinyl records], making music, taking photos, editing video, curating our curio, binding books, and generally being weird.  If you're in the neighborhood, come on by the studio, listen to some music, and watch the trains go by.   //  merderhaus.com  //  christinefielderdesign@gmail.com
